Country with fog and sun

We lived on an acre in the middle of many acres. It was like we had more Yakima land than you could shake a stick at. One spring the garden flooded. Water crept across the yard toward the house in the night. No moon, just this sliding sound like burgler’s feet on the carpet. There was nothing to do but wait.
